The Buntu Mentor Commitment

These are the commitments every Buntu mentor accepts. They exist so students can trust what's on the other side of a booking, and so mentors know exactly what they're signing up for. Plain language. No surprises.

1. Commitment

Mentoring on Buntu is pro-bono. You commit because you believe in compounding fifteen minutes, not for compensation, visibility, or business development.

2. Sessions

Default session length is 15 minutes. You can offer 30 or 60 minutes when scheduling, but you will not overrun a booked slot, and you will not use sessions to pitch paid services.

Both mentor and student must confirm each session on the platform within 7 days. Unconfirmed sessions don't count toward your monthly minimum.

3. Minimum availability

You commit to at least 1 hour of mentoring per month, in any split that works for you: 4 × 15min for four students, 2 × 30min for two, or 1 × 60min for one. You can pause your listing at any time, but a paused listing does not satisfy the monthly minimum.

4. Code of Conduct & Safeguarding

You agree to Buntu's Code of Conduct: no harassment, no discrimination, no off-platform payment requests, no solicitation of personal or professional services in exchange for mentorship.

Safeguarding: if you are matched with a minor (under 18), sessions stay on the platform, parental consent is on file, and you do not initiate private off-platform contact.

Everything shared in a session is confidential unless the student gives written consent to share.

5. No-shows & disputes

If a session is missed, the affected party can flag a no-show. Both parties then have 72 hours to resolve it, either by rescheduling, or by logging a mutually-agreed compensation (e.g. a make-up session).

Disputes that go unresolved past 72 hours become a strike against the at-fault party.

3 strikes in any rolling 12-month window result in an automatic ban from the platform. For mentors, this means profile hidden, mentor role revoked, and removal from the directory. For students, this means losing access to mentor bookings. Appeals are reviewed by an admin.

6. Inactivity

If you go 6 months without a confirmed session, your listing is automatically paused. You can reactivate with one click, no admin approval needed at the inactivity stage.

7. Annual recommitment

Every 12 months, you reconfirm your commitment and re-accept the then-current version of these terms. An admin then reviews your prior activity, no-show record, and student feedback before reactivating your public listing. Without admin approval, your listing stays hidden.

8. Data & confidentiality

Buntu stores the data you provide on the application form, your session history, and feedback. Your public directory profile shows only what you choose to display. You can request export or deletion of personal data at any time.

9. Termination

You may leave the platform at any time by emailing the team. Buntu may also terminate participation for serious violations of this commitment, with notice and an appeal window of 14 days.

Apply to mentor

Terms version 2026-06-12. Bumped on material changes; mentors are asked to re-accept at the next sign-in or recommit cycle.

15-minute sessions, no overrun, no upsell: Sessions default to 15 minutes. I will not extend beyond the booked slot, and I will not use sessions to promote paid services.

At least 1 hour of mentoring per month: I commit to a minimum of 1 hour of mentoring each month, any split works (4 × 15min, 2 × 30min, or 1 × 60min). Both sides confirm each session on the platform.

Honest weekly & monthly availability: I will declare a realistic monthly hour commitment and weekly windows when I'm reachable. Buntu admins will verify my availability before my profile goes live.

Code of Conduct & Safeguarding: I agree to Buntu's Code of Conduct, safeguarding rules for minors, confidentiality, and no off-platform payment requests.

No-show & dispute resolution: If I miss a session without rescheduling or compensating within 72 hours, a strike is recorded. 3 strikes in any 12-month window result in an automatic ban from the platform.

Annual recommitment: Every 12 months I will reconfirm my commitment on the platform; an admin will review my activity and approve continued listing.
